We are proud to announce that AF Protection Limited are currently contracting through utilities contractor Blu-3 for UK Power Networks on the new Hinkley Point C power station, currently under construction for EDF Energy in North Somerset. After receiving the green light in September 2016, the £18 billion project is in the early stages of construction with groundworks and foundations the primary concern at present.
UK Power Networks have been contracted to provide the high-voltage network infrastructure required to power the various operational buildings and equipment required on the immense site. This includes the concrete batching plant which has been constructed to deliver the millions of tonnes of concrete necessary for foundations and groundworks directly to site when required. The transformer switch rooms involved with supplying this power require passive fire protection to internal walls and structural steels in order to provide adequate compartmentation between rooms. The structural steels will receive a cladding board installation with a minimum of two hours’ fire resistance with an equally-resistant cavity barrier to be installed adjacent. The contracted works are already underway with the aim to be completed before the end of the year.

Project Updates
7th February, 2017 - Operatives have returned to site to successfully complete all of the outstanding works in the transformer switch rooms.
18th November, 2016 - Operatives on site successfully completed the first stage of the project to allow the installation of the sites transformer.
